Olaer Diaphragm Accumulators

Liquids are practically incompressible. Hence they cannot be used directly for storing pressure energy. Hydraulic accumulators use the compressibility of a gas to store liquids.

Olaer diaphragm accumulators are based on this principle. Here the gas and liquid sides are separated by a diaphragm. The liquid chamber is connected to a hydraulic system. As the hydraulic pressure rises, the gas is compressed by the liquid flowing into the hydraulic accumulator. When the pressure drops, the gas expands and displaces the liquid from the hydraulic accumulator into the hydraulic system.

In the Olaer diaphragm accumulator, the gas chamber is filled with nitrogen. The diaphragm is placed against the wall of the lower half-shell in the process and the knob closes the oil inlet opening. If a hydraulic fluid is now pumped into the accumulator, the gas in the gas chamber is compressed. The gas volume decreases with a simultaneous increase in pressure and the hydraulic fluid accumulates in the unit.

Conversely, the accumulator will empty itself as soon as the pressure on the liquid side drops below the gas pressure.

The diaphragm may deform itself. This deformation is practically inertia-free and frictionless and provides an efficiency of nearly 100%.

Hydraulic accumulators are pressure vessels according to official regulations. Heat treatment, welding, soldering or mechanical processing must not be carried out on Olaer hydraulic accumulators. The operator is responsible for the operation of the pressure vessel and for strict compliance with the official operating regulations. Olaer hydraulic accumulators are equipped with an Olaer safety and shut-off block and meet the safety requirements under German legislation.
