Cable and Wire Production

Cable and wire production industries use high performance hydraulic plants to remodel materials. The necessary components need to have a high power density and must withstand extreme stress. We support you in engineering and consstructing new systems and plants in combination with professional service for all hydraulic and pneumatic components like hydraulic cylinders, pumps, hoses, pipes and connection components.

Wire Industry

Wire production involves processes such as cold drawing, rolling, and electrolytic treatment of the raw materials. In cold drawing, a coarse wire is drawn through the tapered openings of a die. Modern wire drawing machines draw the wire through more than 30 stages in a single production run, a technically demanding task. The dies are held in position by several hydraulic cylinders. This allows for precise adjustment of the individual stages, saving time during machine changeovers and ensuring consistent product quality. Furthermore, the use of hydraulic cylinders decouples the drawing tools from the rest of the machine. This prevents vibrations, significantly reducing the mechanical stress on the entire system.

Between the individual drawing stages, the wire must be heated regularly (stress-relieving annealing), depending on the material and intended use, to prevent warping of the workpiece during subsequent processing steps. This can be done using a gas flame, but appropriate safety regulations must be observed when using pneumatic components.

Another possible processing step is so-called drawing peeling, in which the outer layer of a wire is stripped using a circular tool. Removing the outer layers results in a higher purity of the wire. The disadvantage compared to pure cold drawing is the generation of waste chips. Hydraulic components are also used for positioning here, both for their high positioning accuracy and for the mechanical damping of vibrations. Hydraulic cutting tools are often used to cut the wire. Even wires with larger diameters or made of particularly resistant materials pose no problem for these powerful machines.

Cable Industry

In cable manufacturing, one or more wires are sheathed with an insulating material. The most common insulating material is polyethylene (PE); PTFE (Teflon) is also used for extremely demanding applications. The material is applied in a cable extruder. The wire is continuously drawn through an extruder chamber. In the chamber, the liquid insulating material is under high pressure and is thus forced through a second opening with a larger diameter along with the wire. A hydraulic pump and control system ensures a constant replenishment of the insulation material at a consistent pressure, guaranteeing a uniform insulation thickness.
