Naval Industry

Whether you are developing ships or boats for passenger and cargo transport, building specialized vehicles for specific applications, or realizing offshore installations – in maritime technology, quality, precision, and absolute reliability are paramount. Especially in emergencies, operators must be able to rely on the flawless operation of all systems and on fast, competent service.

Challenges in the Shipping Industry

Corrosion and Mechanical Stress in Harsh Marine Environments

Maritime systems operate under extreme conditions. Saltwater, high humidity, vibrations, and potential contamination of fluids place materials and components under constant stress. Corrosion and mechanical wear compromise system integrity and can lead to failures. Therefore, robust and durable technology is essential for ensuring high operational readiness of ships and the safety of the crew.

Parker Solutions

Parker develops corrosion-resistant and certified components specifically designed for marine applications. The portfolio ranges from fluid connections and hydraulic systems to filtration solutions and sealing technologies. Whether for merchant ships, naval vessels, or offshore platforms, Parker products deliver reliable performance even under the harshest environmental conditions.

Our range of services for marine and shipping

With our wide range of products, we can serve customers in almost every industry. For the shipping industry, we supply hydraulic and pneumatic components. Furthermore, we work closely with shipbuilders, not only improving the efficiency of workflows and helping to prevent downtime, but also optimizing energy consumption.

Hydraulic components are primarily used in shipbuilding for steering systems. Hydraulic steering systems are available, for example, as simple outboard hydraulic controls and in conjunction with helm stations, rudders, and expansion tanks. Hydraulic systems are offered for both unbalanced and balanced rudders. Hydraulic controls are also used in autopilots and servo controls. Additionally, we offer hydraulic power units and central pump units, as well as side-powered bow thrusters for driving hydraulic motors. Hydraulic systems are also used for ship stabilizers.

Furthermore, we offer hydraulic solenoid valves for hydraulic pumps and hydraulic tanks that store the hydraulic oil. These tanks also provide the option of cooling the oil. Hydraulic cylinders for boat steering systems, including those for outboard motors, are also available. Their size is determined by the size of the rudder and the required rudder torque. Hydraulic pumps, on the other hand, operate at constant pressure. They are able to maintain an ideal balance between operating pressure and the required oil flow. Trim rudder systems also feature hydraulic adjustment. Hydraulic systems are also integrated into canting keels and retractable keels and used for canting masts.

Compact hydraulic power units offer a wide range of applications. On board, they can, for example, raise and lower swim platforms, open and close garage doors, and operate hull balconies, glass sunroofs, and other external hull closures. Trim tabs are also hydraulically adjusted. More recently, hydraulic lifting systems have been used for jack-up vessels, capable of lifting approximately 25,000 tons out of the water.

Pneumatic components are frequently used in ship loading and unloading systems. Air-operated horns are used for various classes of ships. Additionally, there are screw compressors that generate working air and rotary lobe blowers, which are used for wastewater treatment on large cruise ships.
