The German subsidiary SMC Deutschland GmbH has its headquarters in Egelsbach near Frankfurt am Main. With more than 11,000 product groups, the range includes products for air preparation, valves and throttles, actuators, fittings and hose lines, as well as vacuum and instrumentation components. 

SMC actuators and grippers

The pneumatic actuator and control systems from SMC have an excellent reputation worldwide and are regarded as particularly precise and reliable. The range is comprehensive and includes a large number of different types of cylinders and actuators. The range is constantly being improved and refined to ensure a quick response to new developments and changing customer requirements. Special designs are also manufactured on request.

Actuator systems with guides are offered as dual piston rod actuators, slide actuators, precision actuators, and heavy duty models, and are available with different piston sizes and stroke lengths. Depending on the model, they are also suitable for use in clean rooms. 

Rotary actuators are ready-made combinations of a double piston actuator and a rotary disk. These compact units can be purchased as a rotary vane actuator, with gear rack and as a combination unit. 

Special actuators for applications in low-pressure hydraulics and clean rooms must meet special requirements. Precision actuators, high-speed actuators, clamping cylinders, end locks and load stopping models have properties that are specially adapted to their areas of application. 

The range of grippers and separators includes 2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger parallel grippers and angular grippers. Both pneumatic and electric grippers are available. 

SMC cylinders

There is a comprehensive and extensive range of cylinders for a wide variety of applications. Their task is to convert pressure energy into mechanical energy. Cylinders are therefore used for a variety of motion tasks.

The cylinder models include a clamp design, a repairable round housing design and a tie rod design. Also available are compact cylinders with a space-saving rectangular housing, flat cylinders with oval pistons, and particularly compact and lightweight miniature cylinders with double or single-acting spring return.

SMC valves and multiple manifolds

A wide range of solenoid valves, as well as pneumatically, manually and mechanically operated valves, are available in the field of valves and multiple manifolds. Depending on the series, the valves are available as 2/2, 3/2, 4/2, 4/3, 5/2 and 5/3-way models. In combination with valve accessories such as silencers, serial interfaces and unlockable double check valves, a wide range of compressed air applications can be realized with this range. Thanks to the modular design, individual valves can also be combined into compact valve islands and supplied centrally with compressed air. 

SMC air treatment

The careful preparation of compressed air is a necessary component of many pneumatic systems. Foreign substances such as dust, oil or water vapour sucked in from the ambient air can disturb or even damage the function of components.

SMC therefore offers an extensive range of filters and dryers. The range of filters extends from simple, cost-effective filters to sub-micro filters, oil separation filters and even active carbon filters that remove unpleasant odours. Special gas filters for clean room environments are also available. 

Compressed air lubricators deliver oil in fine droplets to the passing compressed air. This reduces friction on sliding surfaces and prevents corrosion. The system can remain under pressure to refill the compressed air lubricators. However, models with automatic oil feed are also available, making manual refilling unnecessary.

In order to ensure a consistently high quality of compressed air, refrigerated dryers are available in various shapes and sizes. Compact air dryers ensure constant compressed air quality independent of fluctuating external influences and thereby guarantee proper operation of the connected compressed air systems. 

SMC vacuum products

Vacuum technology is of great importance in industrial automation. SMC has many years of experience in this complicated field and has an extensive vacuum range. Powerful vacuum generators in various designs and sizes work reliably and efficiently and can be combined with in-house vacuum filters for optimum results. Vacuum generators are used, for example, in transport applications of semiconductor wafers and chips. In combination with the appropriate suction cups and vacuum grippers, parts and products can be picked up and deposited quickly, precisely and gently.

Vacuum regulators are installed after the vacuum pump and regulate the desired underpressure. Electromagnetic proportional regulators, which can control the pressure in proportion to an electrical signal, are also available. 

The range is rounded off by a series of different vacuum switches with different connection options and switching times. Digital precision pressure switches and vacuum switches with diaphragm are also available, among others. 

SMC connection elements

Connection elements are an essential but often neglected part of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. SMC supplies a comprehensive range of plug-in connectors in a wide variety of designs, such as rotary connectors, corrosion-resistant metal connectors, antistatic and flame-resistant connectors, and connectors for clean room blower applications. 

The range of hose lines includes polyurethane or nylon hoses, hoses for clean room applications, hoses that are resistant to chemicals and heat, wear-resistant hoses, and moisture regulating hoses. 

In combination with multiple couplings, distributors and flow controls, as well as the necessary accessories such as hose cutters and multiple holders, this results in a comprehensive range that offers a suitable solution for every application.

SMC products for special applications

SMC is well-known for its products for special applications, such as clean rooms or high vacuum areas. The catalogue of clean room products includes connectors for clean room blower applications, precision pressure regulators, ventilation mechanisms with extremely high repeat accuracy and special clean room regulators for aggressive and neutral gases. 

The range of high vacuum products includes angle valves and axial valves, non-contact vacuum suction cups and high vacuum valves for continuous ventilation control. Special pneumatic actuators for use in high vacuum chambers are also available. 

SMC flow control and instrumentation

As a market leader in the pneumatic sector, SMC has more than 50 years of experience with innovative solutions for automated manufacturing processes. The products offered include individual parts as well as complete solutions, and range from individual process valves to highly complex pneumatic control systems. 

The components required for flow control, such as electro-pneumatic controllers, precision and clean room controllers, digital and mechanical pressure switches, vacuum switches, flow switches and proportional valves are, of course, also available separately.

These products can be used to realize control units such as flap controls in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems or sophisticated valve position controls for highly precise process control applications.
