Lubricants: Grease & lubrication oil

The lubricants by SKF undergo a series of tests such as Emcor, ROF, ROF+, V2F and Bequiet in order to enable an object performance rating of the individual greases. Lubricants differ amongst other things in their ideal temperature range, viscosity, resilience and grease service life.


Greases for general use

SKF multi-purpose greases are greases on mineral oil basis thickened with lithium soap and are intended for use in standard industrial and vehicle technology applications. They have an outstanding oxidation resistance and very good mechanical stability. Typical application areas are agricultural vehicles, conveyor plants, small electrical motors or automotive wheel bearings.  

High-pressure greases for great loads provide good lubrication functions even in difficult environment conditions. They are used e.g. in flood and sluice gates, large machinery bearings and vibrating screens and in crane wheels, cable sheaves and slewing rings.  

We also provide suitable lubricants for rolling bearings even for great loads in a broad temperature range. It has outstanding lubrication properties for short-term temperatures spikes of up to 220°C.  



Lubricants for special requirements

A special food grade roller bearing grease was developed on the basis of medically pure white oil with aluminium complex soap for machines and applications in the food processing sector. All contents have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration FDA and are consistent with food safety laws. The lubricant distinguishes itself by its great water resistance and outstanding corrosion resistance and grease operating life.  

Biodegradable, synthetic greases on ester oil basis are also available. These greases combine great performance and good corrosion protection whilst adhering to current regulations with regards to toxicity and biodegradability.



Extreme temperatures 

Extreme temperatures are a great challenge for different lubricants. Viscosity and therefore the lubrication properties are heavily influenced by extreme cold or heat. At the same time, there is a change in the requirements of the components and rolling bearings requiring lubrication.

Therefore, SKF develops a special low temperature grease on the basis of fully synthetic oils. Ideal lubrication performance can be ensured even at low temperatures and extreme high speeds thanks to a specific thickening process and the use of a low viscosity oil.  

Calcium-sulfonate complex soap greases on mineral oil basis are suitable for peak temperatures of up to 200 °C due to special composition and high viscosity. They are used e.g. in bearings within continuous casting plants, sealed spherical roller bearings and work roller bearings in steel production.  


Chain oils


SKF also offers different oils which are best suited to chains of any type. Depending on the area of use, one product will be suited better than another and will provide perfect lubrication. A food grade chain oil was therefore developed for food and drink applications which has been certified as per NSF-H1.  

Special, biodegradable oils were provided for the use in metal processing. These synthetic lubricants are temperature resistant and up to 98% biodegradable.
